5 Changes I want to see before I croak
17 November 2015
You,
According to World Health Organization
(WHO), the average lifespan of a Filipina is at 72.5. I am currently 37. This means I only have more or less 40 years
to live in this planet.
It’s currently 10:35 pm, Tuesday,
Philippine time and this thought popped up in my head. In these remaining years of my life, what
kind of change/s do I hope to see in my own life, and in my own country?
- HUMAN LIVES are respected. I notice how daily, in the news, daily we hear murder, numerous deaths, beheadings in the south, infants aborted in the most repulsive way, etc. I can only speak for myself but I also observe the same reaction from my own social circle or neighbors. We have become numb and consider it a regular daily affair. Like having coffee and pandesal in the morning. Whilst, I had the chance to live and work in Singapore for almost a year. Most tabloid news already consider somebody caught drinking or eating in the Train – a heinous crime. Does this mean we have become apathetic because of our personal struggles and knowing we have too much population anyway? I know it will take a lot to find the root of the problem; however, I know deep down, I want to have the same level of respect and importance on human lives in my own country as they do in 1st world countries.
- Proper People/Country Governance. This means a government consisting of people who are elected because of their will and experience not because of their last names or elected solely because of the popularity game. I recently got inspired by an article that I’ve read regarding recently elected Prime Minister of Canada – Mr. Justin Trudeau – that each and every member of his cabinet are carefully selected and have had proper “exposure” to their assigned sector. More details of this article are found in this link: http://imgur.com/gallery/Nerxe My impression of current Philippines government, is that the politicians put more importance on keeping their position or personal agenda – not really improving people’s lives.
- Gender, Race, Intellectual Capacity, Socio-economic equality in treatment at work or in public. I notice how some people discriminate towards people who are blue vs white-collared worker, Filipino Race over White Race (even in the Philippines), and all other type of non-sense discrimination. Anybody who works hard for their money should receive the same amount of respect, in fact who cares what degree or honors you have received in school when you cannot show respect to your fellow human-being? I have personally experienced being treated a second-rate citizen in my own country by a supposed “leader” of my own hometown over A WHITE VISITOR. I have lost respect faster that you can say BOOTLICKER soon-after.
- Having dignity in one’s work or passion. I know that it’s not only government’s responsibility to provide the opportunities for its people to have work and consequently result in dignified living. However, it’s supposed to be the primary responsibility. Why do you think majority of the population want to leave their own country due to lack of opportunity? In addition, people should start realizing that respect or that certain level of entitlement shouldn’t only go to traditional occupations like Nurse, Lawyer, Engineer, Doctor, Banker, etc. I have been to the US and the major difference lies there.
- Humans loving other humans and living creatures more than material things. I guess this one’s self-explanatory. :)

Evidence of human being evolution/change
No this has got nothing to do with revolutionary physical changes like growing new set of feet or growing scales on top of human skin.
Right now, I am listening to non-stop Beethoven Classics. The other day I've listened to Mozart and it caused quite a stir within me. I cannot play a single musical instrument decently but I definitely appreciate hearing these.
Who would've thought that one day, I will be sitting in my work chair -- listening to these masters?
All my college friends will tell you that I am all for "hiphop music." Back in the days (late 90's) I would even be seen on campus wearing Cross Colors t-shirt, baggy pants, and sneakers. I must admit that I was easily swayed by mainstream music, and anything classical is a bore.
Somehow, Beethoven is motivating me to finish work today. What prompted me in the first place was that movie "If I stay."

WHAT A GIRL WANTS
-someone who would plan and go to amazing beach trips with her
-someone who would go out of their way to make her feel that she is loved e.g. something like that stunt Heath Ledger did for Julia Styles at 10 Things I Hate About You - when he sang in front of the whole campus while she was playing soccer or someone who'd give the girl flowers just because it's a Monday
-someone who'd try to enjoy reggae songs or any type of music she prefers
-someone who'd want to watch the sunset or sunrise with her while smiling at her or holding her hand
-someone who'd ask how her day was
-someone who'd try something new with her every weekend
-someone who'd be interested to know what's going on in her mind and offer to give advice when asked
-someone who feels lucky just to be with her and never make her feel that she's taking too much of his time
-someone who wouldn't cuss her even at their worst argument
-someone who'd offer human warmth when the movie house gets too cold
-someone who'd look at her - and she'd feel instantly that she's wanted and loved
-someone who's willing to give or doanything to make her smile everyday - no matter what the cost or effort is required

Beauty Brick Hair Art Salon: Digital Perm Experience
I am 99% satisfied with my first digital perm experience at the Beauty Brick Salon.
I just received an SMS message from their stylist - Mr. Shin, asking "How's the condition of your curls?" In my many years of existence, and numerous trips to Salons, this is the first time my stylist texted me to ask how my hair is. They certainly care.
Last Friday, August 20, 2010, I called for an appointment 2 hrs before the actual time. They had an enthusiastic receptionist on the other line - who said that they will be glad to wait for me. I was then greeted by a bunch of happy Salon assistants and of course - Mr. Shin. I also liked the interior of their Salon - it's something I'd want to use in my own room. It's funky, yet minimalist.
They immediately shampooed and conditioned my hair, then Mr. Shin examined my hair. He decided that the Stackers Style (half-rebond, half digital perm) will suit me fine. He showed me a picture of how it's gonna look like - which in turn - got me a bit excited. I also showed him pictures from hazel's wedding - wc I said - is the look I wanted to channel. Although that was curl setting, he said that it was pretty nice and that what he's gonna do should be close.
Althroughout the treatment, they offered my coffee/tea/or water. They also asked if "I was comfortable or if the blow drier was too hot or what time I needed to leave."
I had the best experience at the Salon - but let's wait and see how long my curls will last.
Here's the end result:
Cost: P 3,600 all in (regular price is 4k, but because my hair is thinner than usual, they gave me the discount).
Duration: 3 hrs.

Untitled Poem
hands of an angel
i long to hold
only your fingertips
can warm my cold
'tis a tormented life...
these emotions to unfetter
with not your hand
my heart will shatter
skin of silk
i long to caress
in this world of anger
you calm my distress
so much to give
so much to gain
a lifetime together
would never bring pain
lips of velvet
i long to kiss
were i to release you
my life would be amiss
only forever
can my heart be true
on earth and in Heaven
this I promise to you
do you feel the same?
it may never be known
your world of silence
might never be shown
for now and for always
for you, I will be
simply listen to your heart
there I am waiting... for you
and for me

**in a world where everything is fast-paced and with constant changes that will make your head spin, it is soothing to know you can take a step back and take time for love.
